Breaking Limiting Beliefs: "The Morning is for the Successful"

I want to share with you a reoccurring limiting belief that my clients express to me almost weekly. Since I've heard it often, maybe you can relate to it as well.


The limiting belief is that if they don't wake up at 6:00 AM and have an hour long morning routine full of journaling, working out, and meditation...they are unsuccessful. Or they see themselves as lazy. Or they believe they're not as good as the people that do have that type of morning routine.


***Before I continue, I want you to know that the word "success" in this post is referring to overall happiness mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.***


I, myself, had that same limiting belief for YEARS. So, I went searching. Book after book and podcast after podcast, I kept hearing the statement, "Successful people wake up and do xyz before ____ AM". My response? Okay, let's do this! The outcome? *crickets* They never stuck longer than a few weeks or months. Don't get me wrong, I have continued to implement some incredible habits that these books/podcasts shared with me. But the issue was that when there was a shift of season in my life, I couldn't keep up with it. It just didn't always make sense in the PRESENT season. Some people would respond to this by saying, "No excuses no matter the season of life! You can still make it work!". To me, the "no excuses" statement is bullshit and extremely toxic. I'll have to do an entire post on that statement alone in the future.


Let me share some common "life season" shifts with you. Maybe you can relate to a few.


Life Seasons:

+ starting of a new career

+ getting fired from job

+ falling in love

+ losing a loved one/grief

+ going to college

+ having a kid

+ starting a side business


And if I've learned anything the past few years it's that your life can do a 360 overnight and you can be thrown into a new season like *snap* that. Our lives are constantly changing and yet we continue to hold ourselves to the same image of how to attain "success" through each season.


So here's what we're going to stop doing. We're going to stop connecting success with a wake up time or the habits we have chosen for ourselves in the current life season.


The time you wake up and how you spend your morning DOES NOT not define your success nor is it a personality trait.


But you know what will define your success and who you are? The things you prioritize when you're awake, no matter the time. That workout you see that girl doing at 6:00 AM? You may need to do it at 8:00 PM. That personal development book you see that girl reading in the bath tub? You may need to pop on a podcast on your way to work. That girl you see meditating each morning? Meditating may not even be for you right now, but you may fall in love with it and need it in 10 years. Figure. Out. What. Works. For. You. In. The. Present. Learn to shift and prioritize the things you need right NOW.


To wrap this up, I want to share a visual with you. I want you to see how two people with different circumstances can both successfully prioritize their mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health. At the end of the day, it's about prioritizing what you need in order to be successful. What are the habits YOU need to prioritize right now? How can YOU fit it into your day?
