Let's go back to a few years ago when I first heard the word "manifest".

I first encountered the word "manifest" in a personal development book that I was reading. I had never heard this word before, and immediately turned down the idea of learning about it, even though the book was quite literally changing my life before my eyes. Ps the book was "You are a Badass" by Jen Sincero. It sounded a little...well..."woo-woo" to me. What is woo-woo you ask? Let's take a quick look at the good ol' dictionary.
Woo Woo: unconventional beliefs regarded as having little or no scientific basis, especially those relating to spirituality, mysticism, or alternative medicine.
Before you leave, let me spoil something for you. Manifesting does has scientific foundations. And it's one of the best exercises that have helped shift my life, to date.
Before I go into what manifesting is, let's talk about what it is NOT. I personally had these assumptions prior to doing my research on manifestation, and maybe you do too. Let's bust them real quick.
- Manifesting is simply thinking what you want and then getting it (That would be too easy)
- Manifesting is unscientific (Keep reading for explanation)
- Manifesting is only about money and "things" (It's more about a complete shift in your reality)
Alright, now to the good stuff. What is manifestation? I love how Angelina Lombardo puts it. She describes it as "...making everything you want to feel and experience a reality... via your thoughts, actions, beliefs, and emotions." You see, there is SO much more to manifesting than simply putting your desires out into the world and crossing your fingers it happens. Now THAT would be some woo-woo bullshit.
Manifesting is a process. Without going into too much detail (A later blog post to come!), let's talk about the "why" behind manifesting. Why should you consider doing it yourself? Why should you look into it more? Here are some brief reasons why I manifest as well as teach my clients and community to do the same.
Through manifesting, you are shifting the negative beliefs you have about yourself with affirmations.
A huge part of manifesting is decreasing the negative beliefs or negative narratives you have been affirming over yourself for most of your life. These negative beliefs are deeply rooted into our personality, and only negatively effect our reality. Most, if not all, of these beliefs are formed during childhood or as a young adult. These beliefs happen through trauma. Before you excuse yourself from this conversation, because of a possible "But I don't have that bad of trauma" response...I'm here to tell you that ALL trauma deserves to be addressed. Trauma is ANYTHING anyone has ever done or said to you that has negatively effected you. By using affirmations, we are pretty much tapping into our subconscious to help our brain think in a new, healthier way. Fun fact. Your subconscious does not know the difference between a fact or a lie. Which means when you tell yourself that you aren't worthy of a successful career, it believes that. And in return, you create a reality that reflects that negative view of yourself. If you are someone that struggles with a negative mindset, especially towards your own self, manifesting just might be for you.
When you manifest something, you are using your Reticular Activating System (RAS).
The best way to describe what is happening is the example of when you are wanting to buy a new Jeep and you start to see Jeeps everywhere you go. When we manifest, our brains seek out opportunity and see opportunity more often. Our mind is powerful! This means it can either look for the positives OR it can look for the negatives. Another spoiler alert, if you are using affirmations and manifesting correctly, the positives will come more often than the negatives (Negative experiences will always be a part of our life. Manifesting does not excuse them from happening).
Manifesting is taking your desires/daydreams and bringing them to your highest attention, so that you actually begin to focus on them.
I don't have to do much convincing when I say most people live on "autopilot". We dream, we desire, but we rarely focus. This is most likely due to fear and/or negative beliefs that hold us back from actually focusing on the life we want to create. A huge part of manifesting is taking action. This can look a few different ways. Taking action on your desires can look like affirming positive beliefs over yourself each day, acting as if your desires have already become your reality, grabbing onto opportunity in the face of fear, and waking up everyday with the intention of focusing on the reality you desire to create.
Now that you know the tip of the iceberg of manifesting...I hope you don't see it like I once did. And if you still consider it woo-woo, I think this woo-woo shit is kinda cool.
